VMWare Server is the free software package from VMWare that allows you to create multiple VMs on a single server. It will run on both Windows and Linux, and I think also Mac OXS with VMWare Fusion. It does not support the advanced features you will get from their VMWare ESX Server, but what do you expect for free! It's meant to be VMWare's gateway product to bring people to their enterprise product line, but it is really featured for a free version.
