The eZ430-F2013 is a single kit you can buy that contains everything you will need to get your feet wet with embedded design and programming for only $20. It's about the size of an USB memory stick, and contains the programmer, debugger, and a 'target board' which is actually a MSP430 with some extra items like an LED onboard. The contacts on the target boards are exposed, allowing you to actually prototype or use the product inside of your own application without the need to order a surface mount soldered board.
