Bind is an acronym for Berkeley Internet Name Domain. Bind was originally developed at UC Berkeley and has quickly become one of the most known and respected DNS servers used. In addition to being a light weight program, Bind is very scalable, and will usually handle large volumes of requests even on minimal hardware. Bind 9 is now capable of handling DNSSec, IPv6, DDNS, and Incremental zone transfers.
